If you are going to the shooting range, be sure to get a permit from any Walmart at the sporting goods counter. Its only $5.50 for two hours of range time. It will save you a drive to get one, or a $500 fine. You could receive a warning from the TWRA officer, but better to be safe than sorry. They have updated the 100 yard range with new bench rests, structure,and target holding frames that you do not have to walk out on the range to set up. Make sure you have a vehicle you are confident in driving on primitive roads because the road to the range is not paved.

Really nice trails and beautiful countryside except where they have logged it which is such a shame because it destroys the beauty of the country! Fun place to ride and easy marked trails! Several Creekcrossing and Beautiful waterfalls! You can ride the roads everywhere which makes it nice too! Friendly people and a nice general store or restaurant on site although we didn't go to it we were camping!
Beautiful trail to the top of the mountain. The walking trail at the top to the elk viewing platform is worth the walk. It's about a mile each way but not too strenuous. There's a resting bench about halfway. Be careful we did see a couple snakes on the walking trail. The views are amazing once to the viewing platform. Saw about 30-40 elk with lots of babies and several turkey. Only downfall was the port a potty. Really needed to use it but I don't think they clean it regularly, I opted to go outdoors it was so bad. Also, the trashcans they did have were over flowing with garbage, which really took away from the natural beauty we were there to enjoy. I wish they'd keep the trash cans and restroom clean on a regular basis.
Roads have been improved. Best elk viewing that we ever have seen.
